Advanced by Dr.James Lovelock, this hypothesis includes "a theory of the Earth as a living organism - where the evolution of the species and their material environment are tightly coupled but still evolve by natural selections -.(THE AGES OF GAIA, Preface xix, by James Lovelock)" (emphasis are mine).
This ressembles the notion of Andean cultures about our sacred Pacha Mama. Mother Earth is our Mama, a living being, an we are not only her children but we are an intrinsic part of her. The same way that apple trees 'apple', Pacha Mama 'peoples'!
